Pontoon Service – The Work Beneath the Surface

Each year, the pontoon becomes one of the most relied‑upon parts of the estuary — but behind that sturdy platform is a huge amount of unseen effort. Long before the season begins, our team is already coordinating tides, machinery and manpower to get the pontoon safely in the water. Installing and removing it is a full operation in its own right, demanding precision, experience, and many hours of hard work.

Between seasons, the focus shifts to restoration. During the off‑season, the pontoon is fully deep‑cleaned to remove marine growth, every fitting and component is inspected, and any worn hardware is replaced. Once everything is confirmed safe and ready, the team prepares it for relaunch, ensuring it returns to the estuary in top condition for the season ahead.

And that’s only the beginning!

Here’s a closer look at the work that goes on behind the scenes to keep the pontoon operating smoothly - all so you can enjoy safe, reliable access to your mooring.

Daily Operations

– During the main season the pontoon is manned for 12 hours a day, with shoulder‑month cover adjusted according to tide and weather conditions

– Ferry service to and from your mooring

– A constant on‑water presence to keep everything moving safely

Out‑of‑Hours Access

– A self‑service tender is available when the pontoon is unmanned

– Allows independent access to your mooring

– Enables you to collect passengers from the pontoon at any time

Pricing

Here’s the good news: pricing will stay the same for customers whose boats are under full-time Rock Marine management.

For other users, prices will increase this season to reflect the true cost of operating the service. This ensures the pontoon is properly supported, staffed and maintained throughout the season, so we can continue providing a safe and reliable service for everyone.

Exciting News

An exciting expansion of our waterfront support facilities is on the way. Stay tuned for updates in our next newsletter.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

• Pontoon Ferry Passes must be purchased before using the ferry.

If you need a pontoon pass, please call or email the office and we’ll allocate one to your account.

• Pontoon Passes are issued per boat and cannot be shared across multiple vessels.
